Collective Noun (समूहवाचक संज्ञा)

Special names have been assigned to some special group of things when they are refered to as one in a collective way, such nouns are called collective nouns.

eg. crowd, fleet

कुछ व्यक्तियों अथवा वस्तुओं का जिकर एक साथ करने के लिये विशेष नामों का प्रावधान किया गया है. समूह को दिये गये इन विशेष नामों को Collective Noun कहते हैं.

crowd	collection of people	आदमियों का समूह (भीड़)
army	collection of soldiers	सैनिकों का समूह
team	collection of people working together for a common goal - eg. cricket team.	ऐसे व्यक्तियों का समूह जो एक साजा मकसद के लिये एक साथ हों - जैसे क्रिकेट टीम.
flock	collection of birds, sheep, or goats that travel, live, or feed together	पक्षियों, भेड़, बकरी जैसे जानवरों का झुंड जो एक साथ रहते, चरते और सफर करते हैं.
herd	collection of domestic animals like cattle	गाय जैसे घरेलू जानवरों का समूह
fleet	collection of ships, vehicles of a single owner	जहाजों या एक ही माहिक के वाहनों का समूह
family	collection of people related by birth, marriage or adoption	ऐसे लोगों का समूह जो आपस में जन्म, विवाह या गोद से सम्बन्द्धित हों
nation	collection of people under a single government	एक ही शासन के अंतर्गत लोगों का समूह
